Suzanne Johnson (supervisor), Sophie Reed (coordinator) and Yupa Compton (support worker)The Carewatch and Sure Care Reablement teams have recently completed specific training to be able to provide this service to people, who may have had a recent illness or injury, or who are being discharged from hospital needing extra support in their own home; Reablement is short term support that focuses on positive, achievable outcomes for the individual. The service aims to build confidence and encourage people to regain as much independence as possible by focussing on the skills of daily living which are sometimes lost in mainstream homecare; the Reablement staff are there to do things ‘with’ the person rather than do things ‘for’ the person. Sophie is co-ordinating the service for Carewatch, with Suzanne as the Supervisor.

Carewatch have held a series of Nutrition workshops and are currently developing a user friendly recipe book for the care workers, giving ideas for tasty and nutritionally balanced meals and snacks that are quickly and easily prepared. The book is proving useful to family members that are looking for inspiration and ideas when they are shopping for their cared for relative. Recipe book will be available to download in June 2011.

June 2010

The Dignity in Dementia day was a great success with 14 exhibitors from across the social care sector. After assessing all feedback from the people who attended it is clear that family and informal carers still feel isolated and confused about what services are available to them, what they have to pay for, what their entitlements are… we could go on.  Our aim is to make sure that our supervisory and administrative staff remain fully informed so that we can signpost family carers to the appropriate support services.

The Carewatch Dignity Panel has its inaugural meeting on 27th July 2010; we are celebrating this launch with a cream tea afternoon. The panel has representative members of Service Users, Family Carers, Care Workers, and Supervisors; they will be looking at ways of improving the experience of services for both users and family members. All minutes will be published on this website.

If you would like more information, or to be involved as a member on the Carewatch Dignity Panel, please contact Jan by email

Carewatch are hosting a Dignity in Dementia day at Southend Association of Voluntary Services on Monday 26th April 2010.

The aim of the day is to make resources and information available to every one who is caring for an adult or older person in the community. The event is aimed not only toward people that have Dementia and their carers, but to anyone in the caring role. The organisations and local authority departments that will be in attendance are available to advise informal carers and relatives about all adult services in Castle Point District, Rochford District and Southend on Sea Borough Councils. We will also be taking this opportunity to officially launch our Dementia Support Programme and the Carewatch Dignity Charter, after the successful Dignity Week.

Carewatch supports Dignity in Care, and actively seeks to provide quality services that respect people's dignity.

Carewatch are having a Dignity in Care week from 8th March to 12th March, with four workshops on each day. The workshops have been designed to be fun, but to really challenge us all to think about what we do and how we do it...

..."while 'Dignity' may be difficult to define, what is clear is that people know when they have not been treated with dignity and respect"
